Basic Care for Peacock Cichlids

Peacock Cichlids are a very low maintenance, and beautiful aquarium fish to keep. Like the other African Cichlids, Peacocks require temperatures between 75-84 degrees F, and a high range pH, between 7.5-9.0.

You can make several feedings throughout the day to curb aggression, and they can be kept in a planted tank, so long as the plants are both secured and hardy.

You should remember that Cichlids will sometimes eat plants so i would suggest members of the Amazon Sword species, which seem to be mosty ignored.

You should also know that Cichlids dig caves and disrupt plants and decorations, so be prepared to replant on occasion. This is just being a chiclid.

They should be provided with plenty of hiding places – rocks are most attractive, but clay flower pots work just as well. A small grain, sandy bottom should also be provided. With all aquariums, it is necessary to change 10-20 percent of water each week while cleaning the gravel, and try not to overfeed so as to help maintain good water quality. These guys love brine shrimp, and blood worms, but use these as treats rather than a staple diet.
