DIY Aquarium Background
Malaysian Driftwood
This hang-on-back style filter fits like a glove.
The water intake is positioned in the hardware
compartment in the corner and the filter return
cascades over the edge of the ledge below.
When viewing the aquarium from the front, the
filter is almost completely hidden from view.
A large tree-shaped piece of malaysian
driftwood makes for the perfect centerpiece for
our background. The dense wood sinks on its
own so no need for an anchor.
A variety of artificial plants have been added
since this background will soon be
disassembled and on its way to a local fish club
fund raising auction in Kansas City.
Likely, the new owner will opt for live plants for
their beauty and biological benefits.
Between the substrate at the bottom of the tank
and the numerous terraces, this background
provides ample space for aquatic plants. Both
hardware compartments in each corner behind
the background are accessible and safe for fish
to navigate.

providing opportunity for a variety of artificial plants.
