Screw on the cap! Simple step, but this is what this project is about!

The cap keeps fish out of the filter and a variety of filter media securly in place.
Attach the Maxi-Jet 400 or 600 Powerhead. It should fit with just enough resistance for the new filter assembly to stay together until it's time to service the filter.

When it's time to clean the filter, the powerhead intake can be removed from the bottle by disconnecting the powerhead, inserting a finger inside the intake and pulling with a little twist.
Simple in design and relatively easy to make, these water bottle power filters are great for quick cleanup of extra messy situations.

They're also quick to service and have more filter capacity for their size then some commercial solutions.

Now with the removable cap, they're safer to use as permanent filtration in the presence of small fish when aquarium aesthetics aren't priority.

DIY Water Bottle Power Filter with Screw on Cap
Page 4 of 4
This project idea is an improvement on the original DIY water bottle power filter design. The goal was to make the filter safer for long-term use around smaller fish.
Safety Note: Always unplug electrical aquarium equipment before placing your hands in the aquarium.
