Project Materials:
1 3 oz. plastic spice bottle
1 Aquarium Systems Micro-Jet MC320 power head
Some filter floss & carbon
Tools:
1 bottle of Goo Gone to remove label adhesive
1 15/32 drill bit
Our 3 oz. spice bottle power filter was designed
for a 2.5 gallon desktop aquarium.
The DIY background provides a compartment
on the left just the right size to hide our mini filter.
Once the filter is in place, it will be almost
completely concealed by the background.
The water return holes we made earlier are
pointing toward the front of the tank and over the
top of the background.
Water is fed to the filter thru cave openings at
the bottom of the background.
The little DIY power filter provides plenty of
water movement to keep things interesting in
the tank. The Aiptasia anemone sways back
and forth and reef crabs scramble to catch the
flake food tossed about in the currents.
Over about two weeks, the floss will darken at
the top of the bottle and water flow will slow
indicating it's time to replace the media.
Servicing the filter is quick and easy.
